Foresters Play to Another Tie in Minnesota

Box Score

The Lake Forest College men's hockey team skated to a 3-3 tie at Bethel University on Saturday, less than 24 hours after also tying Hamline University. Freshman forward Charlie Izaguirre scored his first career goal.

Izaguirre's score was assisted by sophomore forward Jack Lewis and senior forward Luke Swardenski and tied the game at two at the 18:16 mark of the opening period. Bethel had started the scoring at 4:47 and junior forward Ian Pichel got the Foresters on the scoreboard at 13:57. Pichel's second score of the season was set up by fellow junior forward Alec DeAngelo and sophomore forward Jimmy Cusan. Bethel took the lead again on a power play goal at the 16:25 mark.

Senior forward Mcauley Banning gave Lake Forest its first and only lead of the contes on a power play score at 6:21 in the second period. His first goal of the year was assisted by a pair of defensemen, junior Robert Weiner and senior Andrew Stein.

More than an entire period passed before the home team netted the official game-tying goal at 7:19 in the third.

Bethel out-shot the Foresters 44-28 in regulation but the visitors put five shots on goal to the Royals' two in the scoreless five-minute overtime.

Entering the contest with a career-high of 24 saves, Lake Forest sophomore goaltender Billy Cooper made 43 on Saturday to earn the tie.

It was the Foresters' program record-tying fifth tie of the season. They are now 7-3-5 and Bethel 2-10-2 on the year.

Lake Forest will resume Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play with a home-and-home series against Marian University next weekend. The teams will face off in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, Friday night at 8:15 and in Lake Forest Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
