Fast Start Leads Lake Forest to Victory over Illinois College

The Forester men's basketball team scored the first 16 points of the game and defeated Illinois College 70-53 at home on Saturday. Lake Forest sophomore forward Jim Schick finished the contest with 16 points and 16 rebounds.

It was Schick's fifth double-double of the season. He shot 7-for-11 from the field, added four assists, and grabbed seven rebounds at the offensive end of the court.

Forester junior forward Torrey Davis led the home team with 19 points and pulled down nine rebounds. Senior forward Brian Madson chipped in with 14 points and seven boards and sophomore guard Andrew Toth had 11 points and five rebounds. Junoir guard Mason Zuniga led all players in the contest with five assists.

Lake Forest shot 42.2 percent from the field and held Illinois College to just 27.9 percent. The home team's most significant statistical advantage was a 54-30 edge in rebounds.

The Foresters held the Blueboys scoreless while pouring in 16 points during the game's first seven minutes. The lead reached as many as 19 points in the first half but Illinois College closed out the period on a 13-4 run to make the score 32-22 at halftime.

The visitors scored the first two points of the second half to trim the lead to eight but they would get no closer. Lake Forest scored the game's next 11 points and led by between 11 and 19 the rest of the way.

The Foresters improved to 6-7 overall this season and to 5-4 in Midwest Conference play. Illinois College fell to 1-12 overall and 0-8 in the league.

Lake Forest will continue conference play at Ripon College on Tuesday. The contest is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
