Lake Forest Defeated at Cornell

The Forester football team suffered a 31-3 loss at Cornell College on Saturday. Senior nose tackle Ramel Samuel led the Lake Forest defense with a career-high 11 tackles on the day.

Seven of Samuel's stops were solos, including his first sack of the season. He ranks fourth on the team with 44 tackles this year.

Forester senior linebacker John Preston also reached double figures with 10 tackles and he also broke up a pair of passes. Preston is now tied with Matt Lawler (2005-08) for ninth place in program history with 259 tackles in his career.

The visitors' only points of the day came on the first career field goal for freshman Charles Courtney. His 31-yarder on the final play of the first half cut the Cornell lead to 17-3.

The Rams added a touchdown with six minutes to play in the third quarter and another with eight minutes left in the game.

Lake Forest's offense was led by sophomore tailback Charlie Quinn, who rushed for 79 yards on 18 carries.

The Foresters will be back at home next Saturday against Grinnell College. Kickoff has been moved up to 10:30 a.m.
