Lake Forest Wins at Concordia Wisconsin, Climbs into Third Place in MCHA South

The Forester men's hockey team won 5-1 at Concordia University Wisconsin Saturday night to complete a weekend sweep of the Falcons and move into third place in the Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association South Division standings. Lake Forest freshman Ian Pichel was one of two players with a goal and assist in the contest.

Pichel's goal was his second of the season and his first official game-winner. Sophomore Luke Swardenski and junior Pat Charron assisted on the score with 2:24 remaining in the opening period.

Concordia Wisconsin had scored first while on the power play at 6:30 in the first. The Foresters tied the score on a power play goal of their own by freshman Ben Certo. Sophomore Charlie Stein and junior Mike Violette assisted on Certo's second goal in as many night and fourth this year.

Lake Forest led 2-1 after the first period and senior goaltender Brendan Sullivan kept the home team off the scoreboard the rest of the way. He made 15 saves on the night and improved to 7-4-2 with a .912 save percentage and 2.20 goals against average on the season.

Swardenski netted the Foresters' first insurance goal a minute-and-a-half into the second period. His third score of the season was assisted by Pichel and freshman Robert Wiener.

The visitors tacked on two more goals in the final period, beginning with junior Roberto Caparelli's team-leading seventh of the year just 37 seconds into the frame. He was assisted by Violette and sophomore Bobby Barrett. Sophomore Jordan Bruce closed out the scoring with just 24 seconds left in the contest. His third goal of 2012-13 was assisted by freshman Cam Severson.

Lake Forest outshot the Falcons 29-16 on the night.

The Foresters' fifth consecutive victory raised their overall record to 9-8-2 and MCHA mark to 6-7-1. Concordia fell to 6-13-0 overall and 6-8-0 in the league, one point behind Lake Forest in the standings.

The Foresters will travel to Adrian College next weekend and will take on the conference-leading Bulldogs Saturday night at 7:00 (EST) and again at 3:00 (EST) Sunday afternoon.
