The Lake Forest College football team won 13-10 at Carroll University to remain undefeated in Midwest Conference play. Junior cornerback Ed Dobernig led the Foresters with 11 tackles and recorded one of the visitors' three interceptions in the contest.

Dobernig's third quarter interception occurred in the end zone with the Foresters trailing 3-0. Lake Forest then traveled 80 yards in nine plays, including 17 on a touchdown pass from junior quarterback Mike Lewis to senior wide receiver Austin Sobey. It was the first career scoring pass by Lewis (included in highlight video below) and the 18th career touchdown catch for Sobey, who is now tied with Lake Forest College Athletic Hall of Famer Steve Kingman (1968-70) for fourth in program history.

Carroll responded with a 10-play, 75-yard touchdown drive of its own and led 10-7 after three quarters.

The next four possessions ended with punts, but a personal foul on the Pioneers gave the Foresters the ball on the Carroll 37 with eight minutes to play. Senior quarterback Pete Scaffidi connected with Sobey on a 12-yard pass on second down, ran for three yards on the next play, and then completed an eight-yard pass to freshman wideout David Rafter. After a two-yard run, Scaffidi found senior wideout Rocky Al-Mutawa for a 12-yard touchdown pass, putting Lake Forest ahead 13-10.

Junior cornerback Nicholaus Waters forced a fumble on the Pioneers' next play from scrimmage and junior linebacker John Dillon recovered on the Carroll 44. The Forester drive, however, stalled at the home team's 14-yardline and the hosts took over with two minutes to play.

The Pioneers drove to the Forester 31 but were backed up 15 yards by penalties. On third-and-25 with 24 seconds remaining, the Carroll quarterback's pass was picked off by senior safety Dominick Campagna to clinch the Lake Forest victory.

It was the fifth turnover forced by Lake Forest on the day. Freshman Pat Clark recorded his first career interception and returned it 41 yards in the second quarter. The Forester defense also had nine tackles for loss, including 2.5 by senior lineman Jake Rotkvich, and a pair of sacks.

Scaffidi finished the day with 178 passing yards and senior Al Mitchell led the Forester running backs with a hard-fought 62 yards on 18 carries. Sobey caught eight passes for 86 yards and moved into fifth place in team history with 113 career receptions and seventh with 1,513 receiving yards.

Lake Forest is now 4-1 overall and 4-0 in Midwest Conference play for the first time since the 2002 conference championship season. Carroll fell to 3-2 overall and 2-2 in the league.

The Foresters will host undefeated Illinois College (4-0, 3-0 MWC) next Saturday afternoon at 1:30 for Homecoming.
