Foresters Win at Carroll to Match Program Record for Victories

Box Score

The Lake Forest College men's basketball team defeated host Carroll University 69-57 on Saturday to complete a 2-0 weekend road trip in Wisconsin. Forester junior post player Chris Madson came off the bench to score a career-high 12 points.

Madson shot 6-for-8 from the floor, pulled down six rebounds, and tied with senior forward Nate Bateman for team-high scoring honors. Bateman grabbed a game-high 11 boards - one more than fellow senior forward Drew Grennell - for his third double-double of the season.

Led by Madson, the Lake Forest bench outscored Carroll's 29-9 in the contest.

The Foresters shot 42 percent from the field while limiting the Pioneers to 37 percent. Lake Forest also made six of 17 three-pointers and 17 of 26 free throws. Carroll shot 4-for-15 from beyond the arc and 7-for-9 from the line. The visitors had a 40-37 edge in rebounds and committed just six of the game's 15 turnovers.

Lake Forest gradually pulled out to a 14-point lead in the opening period and was ahead 32-19 at halftime.

A three-pointer by sophomore guard James Stack with 16:22 to play extended the Forester lead to 20 points and the margin reached 26 points (59-33) after Bateman made a pair of free throws with 11:28 left. Carroll scored the game's next 14 points and pulled to within 10 with five minutes left but would get no closer.

Lake Forest is now 18-2 overall this season and tied with the 18-4 Foresters from 1976-77 for the program's single-season record for victories. The team is also 14-1 in Midwest Conference play and atop the league standings by two games over 12-3 Grinnell. Carroll fell to 11-8 overall and 7-7 in the conference.

The Foresters will play at Monmouth College next Saturday at 5:00 p.m.
