The Forester men's hockey team was defeated 6-3 by visiting Northland College Saturday night. Sophomore forward Mike Violette scored Lake Forest's first goal and assisted on the third.

All three Forester goals gave the home team the lead, beginning with Violette's second score of the season at the 7:34 mark of the opening period. Junior Dave Sharpe and sophomore Craig McDowell each earned an assist on the power play goal.

Northland, however, tied the score at 18:05 and the first period ended with the teams tied at one, despite Lake Forest's 13-6 advantage in shots on goal.

The home team jumped out in front again at the 9:04 mark of the second period on freshman Luke Swardenski's second goal of the year. He was assisted by junior Ethan Goldberg and freshman Jason McAloon.

The LumberJacks tied the score again on a power play goal less than two minutes later.

The Foresters took their third lead of the game as 12:44 when senior Ben Finney's shot from the point found the net for a power play goal. His first score of the season was assisted by Violette and Roberto Caparelli. The home team took a 3-2 lead into the locker room after out-shooting Northland 15-9 in the second period.

Lake Forest had a 14-10 edge in shots on goal in the final 20 minutes but were unable to score while the LumberJacks netted goals at 5:13, 9:56, 12:10 (power play), and 15:01.

The Foresters fell to 1-13 overall and 1-8 in Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association play. Northland is now 4-8-2 overall and 3-5-1 in the league. The same two teams will face off again in Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse tomorrow afternoon at 2:00.
