Balanced Attack Leads Lake Forest to Victory over Carroll

The Forester men's basketball team is 4-1 overall and 2-0 in Midwest Conference play after defeating visiting Carroll University 72-51 Friday night. Lake Forest junior guard Jeff Beck had 11 points, seven assists, five rebounds, two steals, and no turnovers in the contest.

All five Forester starters scored at least eight points, led by senior post player Travis Clark and sophomore guard James Stack with 14 apiece. Beck finished with 11 and senior forwards Nate Bateman and Drew Grennell each scored eight. Beck, Grennell, and Clark tied for team-high honors with five rebounds apiece and Bateman led the home team with three steals and three blocked shots.

Six of the 10 Foresters who came off the bench scored in the contest.

Lake Forest shot a season-high 50.9 percent from the field, 6-for-13 from three-point range, and 10-for-14 from the free throw line. Carroll was limited to 38.2 percent shooting from the floor, and was out-rebounded 39-28. The Foresters committed 16 of the game's 31 turnovers.

The home team trailed 12-11 before outscoring the Pioneers 22-7 in a span of less than eight minutes. Carroll trimmed the margin to nine but a three-pointer by Bateman to close out the period put the Foresters ahead 40-28 at halftime.

Five different Lake Forest players scored during an 11-2 run to open the second half. After the Pioneers pulled to within a dozen points (58-46) with 7:32 to play, the Foresters outscored their guests 14-5 the rest of the way.

Carroll fell to 1-2 overall and 0-1 in conference play.

Lake Forest will host Lawrence University in another MWC contest tomorrow at 5:00 p.m.
