St. Olaf Defeats Lake Forest, 4-1

Box Score

St. Olaf capitalized on special teams in the third period with two shorthanded goals and a power play goal to break a 1-1 tie and defeat the Lake Forest men's hockey team 4-1 on Sunday afternoon. Sophomore Mike Violette scored for the Foresters.

St. Olaf got (6-2-2) on the board at 5:23 of the first period as the puck ricocheted off the skate of Jeff Harris and into the net. Lake Forest (1-7-0) tied the game just 25 seconds later on Violette's second goal of the season. Sophomores Craig McDowell and Roberto Caparelli assisted on the goal.

After a scoreless second period, St. Olaf scored the first of three goals in the third period at 8:25 on the powerplay by Ross Trousdale. Shorthanded goals at 13:30 by Dylan Porter and at 19:45 by Justin Thomas put the game out of reach for the Foresters.

Junior goalie Austin Erney allowed three goals in 58:10 and made 25 saves. The third St. Olaf goal was an empty net goal.

Lake Forest returns to conference play with two games at Milwaukee School of Engineering on Friday, Dec. 2 and Saturday Dec. 3. Both contests start at 7 p.m.
