Foresters are 2-1 after Victory at Chicago

Box Score

The Lake Forest College men's basketball team won 63-58 at the University of Chicago Tuesday night and raised its record on the season to 2-1. Junior point guard Jeff Beck led the Foresters with 20 points in the contest.

Beck shot 7-for-14 from the field, made one of two three-pointers, and connected on four of five free throws. He finished just one point shy of the career-high he set against Carroll University early last February.

Lake Forest senior post player Travis Clark was next on the team with 17 points and he pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds for his third double-double in as many games this season. Clark shot 7-for-10 from the field and 3-for-5 from the line and added two steals and two blocked shots.

Sophomore guard Jordan Gipson led the Foresters with a career-high five assists and senior forward Nate Bateman finished with nine points, five rebounds, three assists, and a pair of steals.

Lake Forest shot 40.7 percent form the field while Chicago connected just 34.5 percent of the time. The Foresters made one more three-pointer (7-6) than the Maroons, grabbed three more rebounds (36-33) and committed one fewer turnover (9-10).

The Foresters led by as many as eight points in the first half but trailed by one at halftime after Chicago's 16-7 run to close out the period.

The Maroons led 39-37 early in the second half before a three-pointer by Lake Forest senior guard Chris Roets started an 8-0 run and put the visitors ahead for good. The margin reached as many as 10 points (54-44) but was back down to three (59-56) with a minute remaining. Clark scored on a layup with 39 seconds to play and Roets knocked down a pair of free throws with five ticks on the clock to secure the victory.

Chicago fell to 2-1 on the year.

The Foresters will begin Midwest Conference play Sunday afternoon against visiting Beloit College. The game will begin at 3:00 p.m.
