The Forester men's basketball team was defeated 82-78 at
Grinnell College Tuesday night (January 5). Lake Forest fell to 2-8
overall this season and 0-3 in Midwest Conference play. The
Pioneers raised their overall record to 2-7 and league mark to
1-2.
The statistical highlight of the game for the Foresters came from
senior forward Patrick Hanley (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield), who
scored 11 points, led all players in the game with a career-high 15
rebounds, and dished out 10 assists for the first triple-double in
team history.
Sophomore post player Travis Clark (Evanston, Ill./Evanston) led
the visitors with 17 points on 8-of-9 shooting from the field.
Sophomore forward Drew Grennell (Tinley Park, Ill./Providence
Catholic) and senior guard Victor Campbell (Milwaukee,
Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) also reached double figures with 11 and 10
points, respectively.
The Foresters shot nearly 75 percent from the field and
out-rebounded the home team 47-25. The visitors committed 34
turnovers, however, and made just 13 of 23 free throws in the
contest.
Lake Forest led by as many as 10 points in the opening period and
45-39 at halftime.
A 10-0 Forester run early in the second half made the score 57-42
with 15:40 remaining. A 12-2 run by the Pioneers cut the lead to
five before five more Lake Forest points puched the margin back to
10 with 10:25 to play. Grinnell scored the game's next 11 points to
take the lead with 7:48 left on the clock. There were six lead
changes in the next four minutes but a 9-1 run by the home team
late in the contest proved to be too much for the Foresters to
overcome.
The Foresters will continue Midwest Conference play Saturday
afternoon (January 9) at 3:00 against visiting Knox College. A
live video webcast and
live
stats will be
available during the game on the Lake Forest College Athletics Web
