Third Period Scoring Barrage Leads Foresters to Victory over Concordia Wisconsin

The Lake Forest College men's hockey team hosted and defeated Concordia University Wisconsin 8-3 Friday night (January 15). The Foresters raised their overall record to 5-8-0 and Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association mark to 5-4-0. The Falcons fell to 0-13-1 overall and 0-9-0 in the league.

Lake Forest took the early lead on senior Sean Farley's (Park Ridge, Ill./Utica College) second goal of the year four minutes and eight seconds into the contest. He was assisted by senior Adam Love (Durham, Ontario/Elmira Sugar Kings) and freshman Phil Bushbacher (Glenview, Ill./Aurora Tigers). Concordia Wisconsin, however, tied the game at the 16:21 mark of the opening period and the score was 1-1 after the first 20 minutes of play.

The visitors took the lead at the 2:41 mark of the second period and went ahead 3-1 at 13:37. The Foresters regained momentum with a power play goal by freshman Marc Rubino (Woodbridge, Ontario/St. Michael's Buzzers) at 18:20 and trailed by just one going into the third period. Rubino was assisted by freshman Trent Brown (Ayr, Ontario/Elmira Sugar Kings) and senior Peter Pfeffer (Farmington Hills, Mich./Walpole Stars).

Love tied the game just 28 seconds into the third period. Brown and freshman Mike Rubino (Woodbridge, Ontario/St. Michael's Buzzers) assisted on Love's fifth goal of the year. Freshman Thomas Bark (Toronto, Ontario/Streetsville Derbys) then netted what turned out to be the official game-winning goal at 4:43. Sophomore Chad Thompson (Rockwood, Ontario/Listowel Cyclones) and senior Justin Taylor (Sun Valley, Idaho/Walpole Stars) assisted on the power play goal. Bark lit the lamp again just 39 seconds later off passes from Taylor and Brown and Marc Rubino netted his second score of the game and team-high eighth this season at 14:34. He was assisted by Pfeffer and freshman Jake DellaValle (Venetia, Pa./Stouffville Spirit). Bark completed his first career hat trick with a power play goal at 16:18. It was his fourth score of the season and was assisted by Taylor and Marc Rubino. Freshman Robert Bote (Eching, Germany/Smith Falls Bears) finished off the six-goal period with his third score of the year at 19:08. Bark recorded an assist for his fourth point of the period and junior Tyler Gross (Fond du Lac, Wis./Fond du Lac H.S.) was also credited with a helper on the play.

Lake Forest had a 13-11 advantage in shots on goal in the first period, was out-shot 14-13 in the second, and put 14 shots on goal to the Falcons' 11 in the third. Forester freshman goaltender Brendan Sullivan (Fall River, Mass./Aurora Tigers) recorded 33 saves in the contest.

The same two teams will face off again at 7:30 tomorrow night at Concordia Wisconsin in Mequon, Wisconsin. A live video webcast of the game will be available on the Falcons' web site.
