The Lake Forest College men's hockey team hosted and defeated
Concordia University Wisconsin 8-3 Friday night (January 15). The
Foresters raised their overall record to 5-8-0 and Midwest
Collegiate Hockey Association mark to 5-4-0. The Falcons fell to
0-13-1 overall and 0-9-0 in the league.
Lake Forest took the early lead on senior Sean Farley's (Park
Ridge, Ill./Utica College) second goal of the year four minutes and
eight seconds into the contest. He was assisted by senior Adam Love
(Durham, Ontario/Elmira Sugar Kings) and freshman Phil Bushbacher
(Glenview, Ill./Aurora Tigers). Concordia Wisconsin, however, tied
the game at the 16:21 mark of the opening period and the score was
1-1 after the first 20 minutes of play.
The visitors took the lead at the 2:41 mark of the second period
and went ahead 3-1 at 13:37. The Foresters regained momentum with a
power play goal by freshman Marc Rubino (Woodbridge, Ontario/St.
Michael's Buzzers) at 18:20 and trailed by just one going into the
third period. Rubino was assisted by freshman Trent Brown (Ayr,
Ontario/Elmira Sugar Kings) and senior Peter Pfeffer (Farmington
Hills, Mich./Walpole Stars).
Love tied the game just 28 seconds into the third period. Brown and
freshman Mike Rubino (Woodbridge, Ontario/St. Michael's Buzzers)
assisted on Love's fifth goal of the year. Freshman Thomas Bark
(Toronto, Ontario/Streetsville Derbys) then netted what turned out
to be the official game-winning goal at 4:43. Sophomore Chad Thompson (Rockwood, Ontario/Listowel Cyclones) and senior Justin Taylor (Sun Valley, Idaho/Walpole Stars) assisted on the power play
goal. Bark lit the lamp again just 39 seconds later off passes from
Taylor and Brown and Marc Rubino netted his second score of the
game and team-high eighth this season at 14:34. He was assisted by
Pfeffer and freshman Jake DellaValle (Venetia, Pa./Stouffville
Spirit). Bark completed his first career hat trick with a power
play goal at 16:18. It was his fourth score of the season and was
assisted by Taylor and Marc Rubino. Freshman Robert Bote (Eching,
Germany/Smith Falls Bears) finished off the six-goal period with
his third score of the year at 19:08. Bark recorded an assist for
his fourth point of the period and junior Tyler Gross (Fond du Lac,
Wis./Fond du Lac H.S.) was also credited with a helper on the
play.
Lake Forest had a 13-11 advantage in shots on goal in the first
period, was out-shot 14-13 in the second, and put 14 shots on goal
to the Falcons' 11 in the third. Forester freshman goaltender
Brendan Sullivan (Fall River, Mass./Aurora Tigers) recorded 33
saves in the contest.
The same two teams will face off again at 7:30 tomorrow night at
Concordia Wisconsin in Mequon, Wisconsin. A live video webcast of
