The Lake Forest College men's hockey team dropped a 6-4 decision
to visiting St. Olaf College Friday night (November 27). The
Foresters fell to 2-5-0 on the season while the Oles raised their
record to 4-2-3.
St. Olaf took the early lead at the 7:32 mark of the opening period
but Forester freshman Robert Bote (Eching, Germany/Smith Falls
Bears) tied the game just 82 seconds later. His first career goal
was assisted by seniors Peter Pfeffer (Farmington Hills,
Mich./Walpole Stars) and Adam Love (Durham, Ontario/Elmira Sugar
Kings). The Oles regained the lead on a power play goal at 13:45
and closed out the period's scoring with an even-strength goal at
16:26. The visitors out-shot Lake Forest 16-12 in the game's first
20 minutes.
Another St. Olaf power play goal at the 9:50 mark of the second
period made the score 4-1 but Bote lit the lamp again just 20
seconds later with Pfeffer and freshman Marc Rubino (Woodbridge,
Ontario/St. Michael's Buzzers) each earning an assist. Freshman Zak Borowski (Gloucester, Ma./Granite City Lumberjacks) scored for the
second time this season at 11:55 and Rubino tied the score on the
power play at 14:33. Sophomore Joel Gard (Orangeville,
Ontario/Streetsville Derbys) and junior Anthony Ventura (Pleasant
Prairie, Wis./Lebanon Valley College) assisted on Borowski's goal
and Pfeffer and freshman Mike Rubino (Woodbridge, Ontario/St.
Michael's Buzzers) set up Marc Rubino's team-high fifth score of
the season. It was the first three-point game of Pfeffer's career.
St. Olaf, however, took the lead again with 1:08 remaining in the
period. Lake Forest out-shot the visitors 10-9 in the frame.
The visitors closed out the scoring with an empty net goal with
just 14 seconds to play in the contest. Both goalies turned away
all 12 shots on goal they faced in the final period.
Lake Forest will host St. Olaf College again tomorrow afternoon at
2:00.
