The Forester men's basketball team fell to 1-1 on the year after
falling 88-73 to Davenport University in the semifinals of the
Calvin College Tip-Off Tournament Friday night (November 20). The
Panthers raised their record to 5-0.
Senior forward Patrick Hanley (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield) led
three Foresters in double figures with 16 points. He also pulled
down five rebounds and dished out a game-high six assists.
Sophomore guard Chris Roets (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) added a
career-high 14 points and sophomore post player Travis Clark
(Evanston, Ill./Evanston) chipped in with 10. They also led the
team with three steals and seven rebounds, respectively.
Davenport out-shot Lake Forest 53.5 percent to 51.0 percent. The
Foresters made six of 16 three-pointers and shot 17-for-29 (58.6%)
from the free throw line. The Panthers knocked down just three of
14 attempts from three-point range and 21 of 30 (70%) foul shots.
Lake Forest held a 31-26 edge in rebounds but committed 26
turnovers while forcing just 15.
Davenport jumped out to a 15-4 lead early in the contest but the
Foresters came back to tie the game at 27. The teams were
deadlocked again at 30, 32, and 33 before the Panthers pulled away
at the end of the period and led 38-34 at halftime.
The Foresters surrendered the first three points of the second half
and got no closer than five points down the rest of the way. The
margin reached double figures several times in the period and
remained there for the final six-plus minutes of the contest.
Host Calvin University also lost Friday night and will host Lake
Forest in tomorrow's 1:00 p.m. (EST) consolation game. Live
