The Forester men's hockey team was defeated 4-3 in its 2009-10
home opener by Lawrence University Friday night (November 13). Lake
Forest fell to 2-2-0 overall on the season and 2-1-0 in Midwest
Collegiate Hockey Association play while the Vikings raised their
overall record to 4-0-0 and league mark to 3-0-0.
Lawrence out-shot the Foresters 13-10 in the opening period and
converted a power play opportunity with 1:22 remaining for period's
only score.
The Vikings struck again at 3:33 in the second, netted another
power play goal at 13:07, and tacked on a fourth score just 36
seconds later. Lake Forest finally got on the scoreboard with 1:20
to play in the period. Senior Justin Taylor (Sun Valley,
Idaho/Walpole Stars) scored for the second time this season and was
assisted by freshmen Thomas Bark (Toronto, Ontario/Streetsville
Derbys) and Marc Rubino (Woodbridge, Ontario/St. Michael's
Buzzers).
It took just 28 seconds in the third period for the Foresters to
score again. It was freshman Phil Bushbacher's (Glenview,
Ill./Aurora Tigers) third goal of the season with sophomore Joel Gard (Orangeville, Ontario/Streetsville Derbys) and senior Adam Love (Durham, Ontario/Elmira Sugar Kings) each earning an assist.
The home team pulled to within a goal at 6:17 when freshman Zak Borowski (Gloucester, Ma./Granite City Lumberjacks) lit the lamp
for the first time in his career. He was assisted by juniors
Anthony Ventura (Pleasant Prairie, Wis./Lebanon Valley College) and
Justin Maciuk (Antioch, Ill./Concordia University Wisconsin).
Forester freshman goaltender Brendan Sullivan (Fall River,
Mass./Aurora Tigers) turned away a season-high 38 of 42 shots on
goal.
Lake Forest will travel to defending MCHA champion Adrian College
next weekend (November 20-21) and take on the Bulldogs for the
first time in team history.
