Tony Martino, a coach at numerous levels since 1999, joined the Lake Forest women’s hockey staff prior to the 2015-16 season as the team’s goaltenders coach.
The Foresters are 164-104-17 overall and 117-51-12 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play since Martino joined the staff. Under his direction, Forester goaltenders have combined for a .927 save percentage, 1.98 goals against average, and 65 shutouts in the last 11 years. Allie Carter was a First Team West All-American after posting the second-lowest goals against average in the nation in 2015-16 and Lake Forest goalies have earned five All-NCHA selections and three NCHA All-Freshman Team honors.
Martino has also been an assistant coach/goaltenders coach for the College’s men’s hockey team since 2014. Under his direction, a pair of goaltenders on the men's team have been named All-NCHA, including the league's Player of the Year and a First Team West All-American selection in 2014-15.
Martino has held several different positions in the sport of hockey and is currently an amateur scout for the NHL’s Toronto Maple Leafs and Hockey Director at the Winter Club of Lake Forest.
Martino’s head coaching experience began with three years with the New Mexico Scorpions of the CHL and a season with the Knoxville Ice Bears of the ACHL. He also directed two teams for a total of three years in Italy, where he claimed a Coppa de Presidente championship, and was the head coach and director of hockey operations of the Tulsa Oilers of the CHL.
In addition, Martino has been an assistant coach, goaltenders coach, video coach, or scout for several other organizations, including the Chicago Blackhawks. His most recent position was the goaltenders coach for the Lake Forest High School varsity team from 2010-13. He was also an assistant coach with the Chicago Express of the ECHL in 2011-12.
