The 2025 season was the 10th for Sean Avila as an assistant coach at Lake Forest College. He works with the team's goalkeepers.

The Foresters won a program record 19 games against just two losses and posted a perfect 8-0-0 record in Midwest Conference play to repeat as league champions in 2025. They also recorded back-to-back shutouts to win the MWC Tournament and advance to the NCAA Division III Tournament for the fourth year in a row.

Goalkeeping duties last year were split among four different players who combined for a 0.62 goals against average, .819 save percentage, and 14 shutouts. Andrew Swacha was named Second Team All-MWC and has now been listed among the league's best twice in his career.

Lake Forest is 94-72-14 overall and 56-13-7 in the conference with four league titles and five NCAA Tournament appearances during Avila's decade on staff. During that time the Foresters earned a spot in the four-team MWC Tournament in eight of the nine years the event was held and the team's goalkeepers recorded 54 shutouts and earned four all-conference honors, as well as the 2023 MWC Defensive Player of the Year award.

Avila played four years at nearby Trinity International University, where he served as the Trojan's primary goalkeeper as a senior after splitting time at the position his junior year. He finished his career with 140 saves and four shutouts and graduated with a degree in social sciences. During his college career he spent two weeks in San Jose Costa Rica on a soccer missions trip.

Avila was a member of the Lincolnshire Lightning from 2011-15 and he also coached a youth team in the same organization. During the summer of 2015 he played professionally in the Brisbane Premier League of Australia. There he helped lead the Logan Lightning to six victories, six losses, and 10 draws.

A native of nearby Winthrop Harbor, Illinois, Avila was an honorable mention all-conference selection at Zion-Benton High School.
