"I love to coach Division III because of the emphasis on a high level of academics and a high level of athletics. Lake Forest is a place where you receive both. I have the opportunity to work with great student-athletes and help our students prepare for their futures." | - Assistant Women's Basketball Coach Kyle Nelson |

The 2015-16 season is the second for Kyle Nelson on the Forester coaching staff. He directs the team’s post players.
Lake Forest posted a 12-11 overall record and 11-7 mark in Midwest Conference play during Nelson’s first season on staff. Three of the top six scorers on the team were post players and they combined to shoot 43 percent from the field.
Prior to coming to Lake Forest, Nelson spent three years playing professionally, the last in Romania. He was also voted to the all-star game in Latvia during the 2011-12 season and in the Republic of Georgia the following year.
Nelson’s coaching experience includes four years of running summer camps and working with the sophomore and varsity teams at Deerfield High School during their summer league schedule.
As a senior at Augustana College, Nelson was one of 10 finalists for the prestigious Jostens Award, given to the top NCAA Division III player in the nation based on basketball ability, academic accomplishment, and community service. He was also a two-time all-region, all-conference, and academic all-conference selection and served as a team captain as a junior and senior.
Nelson graduated from Augustana in 2011 after double-majoring in finance and mathematics. He was a member of Pi Mu Epsilon, a national honorary mathematics fraternity, and a six-time dean’s list honoree.
In addition to coaching, Nelson is enrolled in the sports administration graduate program at Northwestern University.
