Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Lake Forest's Season Comes to an End with NACC Tournament Semifinal Loss to MSOE

The Forester women's lacrosse team was upset 16-15 by Milwaukee School of Engineering at home on Wednesday in the semifinals of the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Tournament.

Lake Forest did not trail until MSOE netted the game-winner with just 5.9 seconds to play in the contest.

The Foresters accounted for the first four goals of the game and led 5-4 at the end of the opening period thanks to a pair of scores by freshman Gracia Muñoz and one each by junior Ella Maher and seniors Emma Sharp and Daulath Khan. Sharp and Muñoz completed hat tricks in the second and additional tallies from sophomore Avery Srnka and freshman Audrey Kroeger made it a 10-7 game at halftime.

Sharp's fourth of the day started the second half scoring but four in a row for the Raiders tied the score at 11. Lake Forest regained the lead with Kroeger assisted Srnka on the final goal of the third quarter and the first of the fourth. The teams alternated the next four goals with Maher and Srnka restoring the home team's two-score advantage. Trailing 15-13 with less than three minutes to play, MSOE struck with 2:16  remaining, tied the score 32 seconds later, and netted the game-winner with 5.9 seconds on the clock.

Sharp finished the game with four goals and an assist and will graduate next Saturday as the Foresters' all-time leader with 145 career assists and ranked second in team history with 143 goals and 288 points. In addition, her 48 goals, 34 assists, and 82 points this spring rank among the program's top six single-season totals.

Srnka matched Sharp with four goals on Wednesday ranked second on the team with 31 on the year. Kroeger raised her season total to 28, Khan to 27, Maher to 26, and Muñoz to 16.

Senior Claire Aimone led all players in the game with five ground balls and seven caused turnovers and her career totals in both categories rank among the top five in team annals. Classmate Shannon Gibbons secured seven draw controls and ranks third in school history with 71 this season and 148 in her career.

Forester senior goalie Cecilia Adams made 16 saves on Wednesday to finish one shy of the single-game team record she set against MSOE earlier this season. She is easily Lake Forests career leader with 35 victories and 431 saves over the last four seasons.

The Foresters claimed their second straight Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference title with a perfect 9-0 record in league play this spring and finished the season with an overall mark of 11-5.
