Mishmash Breaks Program's Career Hits Record during Sweep of Dominican

The Forester softball team swept a doubleheader at home against Dominican University on Tuesday, opening with a 4-0 victory before winning 6-1 in game two.

Junior Kaia Mismash went 2-for-3 in the opener, recording a single in the first inning and a double to left field in the fourth. Her second hit of the game marked her 187th career hit, setting a new Lake Forest College program record.

The Foresters had a pair of two-run innings, with senior Cadence Dempsey driving the offense and contributing to the majority of Lake Forest's runs. She had three RBI's and hit a two run home run in the, second which was her sixth of the season.

Lake Forest totaled seven hits in the opener with Mismash, Dempsey and Kyla Chevalier each recording two.

Senior pitcher Riley Stiles threw a complete-game allowing just five hits and striking out seven batters, helping lead the Foresters to a shutout victory.

The Foresters carried that momentum into game two and rallied for five runs in the second inning. Junior Paige Ratliff hit her third home run of the season. The offense continued when seniors Emmie Nyen and Brooke Swiecki followed with back-to- back singles to left field. Mismash continued her now 34 game hitting streak, when she hit a triple that drove in three runs. She came home as part of a double steal.

Dempsey continued her hot streak belting in her second home run of the day, team high seventh of the season and 25th of her career.

The Foresters totaled 10 hits from five different players in game two. Ratliff was 3-for-3 in the game while Mismash and Swiecki were 2-for-3.

Sophomore Vanessa Buskee was in the circle the whole game and recorded four strikeouts, while allowing five hits and just one run.

Lake Forest is now 20-12 and 7-1 at home. Dominican fell to 25-15.

The Foresters will celebrate senior day and play their last conference game on Saturday when Grinnell College comes to Mohr Field. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
