The Forester men's lacrosse team defeated Cornell College 21-6 on Saturday in its final home game of the regular season.
Lake Forest scored the game's first four goals and led 6-1 after the opening quarter. The home team added three more scores in the second, making it a 9-1 game at halftime.
Cornell accounted for the third quarter's first and last goals but the Foresters struck five times in between and led 14-3 going into the fourth. The teams split the first six goals of the fourth before Lake Forest scored the final two to close out the contest.
Senior
Ryan Dousevicz and junior
Owen O'Connor recorded hat trick and Dousevicz added an assist. Freshman
Liam Smith had two goals and 12 other players on the team added one apiece. Among those scores was the first of the season for sophomores
Wesley Sailor and
Joe Williams and the first in the career of freshman
Avary Whitehead. Freshman
Damon Schuetz was among the goal scorers and also had a pair of assists.
Senior
John O'Reilly led Lake Forest with five ground balls while classmate
Jacob Smith with three caused turnovers. Dousevicz and senior
Lucas Scheps-Brown added two caused turnovers apiece.
All four of the Forester goalkeepers saw action in the game, beginning with senior
Jacob Lipson, who stopped six of seven shots on goal in the first half. Freshman
Henry Morgan, sophomore
Billy Draper, and freshman
Griffin Niedzielski each played roughly 10 minutes in the second half and combined for 11 more saves.
Joining Dousevicz, O'Reilly, Smith, Scheps-Brown, and Lipson in the starting lineup and during the Senior Day ceremony at halftime were fellow fourth-year players
Brendan Herbert,
Brant Schuckman, and
Carson Pagel. Herbert scored a goal, Pagel assisted on one, and Schuckman had one of each in their final regular season home game.
Saturday's victory raised Lake Forest's overall record to 8-6 and Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference mark to 7-3. Cornell, meanwhile, fell to 3-11 overall and 1-9 in the league.
The Foresters will close out the regular season at Illinois Institute of Technology Wednesday night at 7:00. A Lake Forest win would clinch home-field advantage in next Saturday's quarterfinal round of the NACC Tournament.
