Chevalier Breaks RBI Career Record

Senior catcher Kyla Chevalier etched her name into the Lake Forest record books Monday, setting the Lake Forest career record for RBI, as the Foresters softball team continued play in The Spring Games in Clermont, Fla.

Chevalier recorded a pair of RBI on the day, increasing her career total to 138 runs batted in. The senior from Valparaiso, Ind., passed Tracy Rainey, who held the previous record with 136 RBI.

Game 1: Lake Forest 5, Nichols College 1
Chevalier wasted no time breaking into the record books, as the Foresters got out to an early lead and cruised to a 5-1 victory over Nichols College.

In her first at-bat of the game in the top of the second inning, Chevalier ripped a double to left field, plating both Nicole Marceau and Emmie Nyen to break the early scoreless tie. Chevalier completed her trip around the bases, as junior Lia Taglia eventually brought her around to score with a two-out RBI single to left field to increase the Foresters' advantage to 3-0.

Freshman Ellie Adduci (1-0) fired a complete game for her first career win in her Lake Forest debut. The right-hander from Glen Ellyn, Ill., scattered just three hits allowed and just one run. Adduci walked five batters, while recording one strikeout.

The Foresters tacked on a pair of insurance runs in the sixth and seventh innings after Nichols had trimmed the Lake Forest lead to 3-1 in the bottom of the fifth.

Senior Brooke Swiecki delivered a timely RBI single to left field in the sixth, scoring Vanessa Buske, then fellow senior Cadence Dempsey scored Taglia on a sacrifice bunt in the top of the seventh to give Lake Forest a 5-1 advantage.

Game 2: Swarthmore College 3, Lake Forest 2
In their second game of the day, the Foresters could not string together enough offense, falling 3-2 to Swarthmore College.

Sophomore pitcher Hanna Tutor earned the start in the circle for the Foresters and faced adversity early in the game. The first three Swarthmore hitters she faced reached base as the Foresters fell behind 1-0. Tutor showed strong resiliency to escape the first inning with no further damage.

Lake Forest didn't trail for long, as the Foresters responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the first. The junior Marceau singled through the left side to score leadoff hitter Kaia Mismash and tie up the game.

Both pitchers held their opponents in check for much of the game, until Swarthmore scored a run in both the fifth and sixth innings to take a 3-1 lead going into the seventh.

The Foresters had the winning run on base in the bottom of the frame, as Paige Ratliff came to bat with the bases loaded and just one out. The junior catcher cut the deficit in half with an RBI sacrifice fly, but Dempsey popped out to first base with the tying run on third base to end the game.

Lake Forest will continue their week in Florida at the Spring Games on Tuesday. The Foresters will face off against Moravian University at 9:00 a.m. (CST) tomorrow, followed by a second game at 11:15 a.m. (CST) against the University of Mount Union.
