The Lake Forest College men's lacrosse team began Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play with a convincing 16-3 victory over Edgewood College at home on Saturday.
One of the many highlights for the Foresters on the day was a pair of third period goals by senior
Brendan Herbert that moved him past
John Casey '25 and into first place in program history with 160 career points. He also raised his career goal total to 108 and now trails Casey's school record in that category by just seven.
Eleven different Foresters scored in the contest and the team was led offensively by sophomore
John Shannon, who accounted for three of the goals and added an assist. Freshman ilo Closson and senior
Ryan Dousevicz matched Herbert with two goals apiece and Dousevicz added an assist. Junior
Macklin Thomas assisted on three of the home team's scores and classmate
Carson Pagel set up two of them.
Among the other Lake Forest tallies were the first collegiate goals for freshmen
Jack Keeling,
Liam Smith, and
Brady Tersolo.
At the other end of the field, senior goalie
Jacob Lipson stopped eight of the Eagles' 10 shots on goal in the first half and freshman
Henry Morgan was 9-for-10 in the second. Lipson in now 2-0 with an .8.67 goals against average and .552 save percentage on the young season.
Also contributing to the Foresters' stingy defense on Saturday were junior
Judson Norris and freshman
Avary Whitehead, who each accounted for three of the team's 13 caused turnovers on the day. Lake Forest also had a 52-27 edge in ground balls with Whitehead and senior faceoff specialist
John O'Reilly leading the way with five apiece.
O'Reilly, Keeling, and senior
Gabe Boston combined to win 77.3 percent (17 of 22) of the game's faceoffs for the eighth-highest percentage in program history.
The victory was the Foresters second in as many contests this year and they have the early lead in the NACC standings. It was the season opener for Edgewood.
