Lake Forest College men's lacrosse player
John Shannon was named Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Wednesday for his performance in Saturday's 13-11 victory at Carthage College.
Shannon led all players in the game with a career-high five goals as Lake Forest earned its first win over the Firebirds after falling to them each of the last four years. The sophomore attacker scored to give the visitors a 2-0 lead early in the contest and added a pair of man-up goals in the second quarter. After five consecutive Carthage goals in the third and fourth quarters cut the Forester lead to one at 9-8, Shannon started a 3-0 run for Lake Forest with his third man-up goal of the day. Back-to-back scores from the home team later in the period made it a 12-10 game but Shannon struck again with 1:41 remaining to all but clinch the victory.
With three man-up goals on Saturday, Shannon is just one away from his 2025 total that tied for the team lead. In 19 career games he now has 40 points on 28 goals and a dozen assists.
NACC Players of the Week are selected by a committee of sports information directors within the league. This week's selections are the first of 2026.
