The Lake Forest men's basketball team was plagued by turnovers Saturday afternoon at Grinnell College, as the Foresters dropped a Midwest Conference matchup, 110-95.
Forward
Cristian Rodriguez set a new career high with 18 rebounds to go with his game-high 21 points.
Alex Forowycz scored 17 points and added five rebounds and five assists.
Luke Arington and
Marko Visnjevac were the other Foresters in double figures scoring, as Arington scored 16, while Visnjevac chipped in 17 points.
The 25 turnovers for the game was a season high for Lake Forest (11-7, 6-3 MWC), and it's first time all season that the Foresters have turned it over more than 20 times in a game. The difference in the game proved to be points off turnovers, as Grinnell outscored the Foresters in that category, 33-4.
A 20-6 run from Grinnell midway through the first half pushed the hosts' lead to double figures. During that stretch, the Pioneers shot 9-of-11 from the field.
In the second half, Foresters were able to cut the deficit to six points multiple times. A pair of
Alex Brown free throws brought the score to 61-55 Grinnell with just over 15 minutes remaining, then Lake Forest made another push with under nine minutes left, capped by a Forowycz three-pointer to make the score 76-70.
Lake Forest would again trim the lead to six points on a Rodriguez jumper with three minutes remaining but could not get any closer than that down the stretch.
The Foresters will return to the Sports and Recreation Center for their next game, as Lake Forest will take on Ripon College on Tuesday in the Coaches vs. Cancer Game. Tipoff for the game is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
