The Lake Forest men's basketball team ripped off its eighth consecutive victory with a scorching shooting performance, defeating Knox College on Saturday, 105-87.
Sharpshooter
Luke Arington was critical to the Foresters' offensive spacing, as he scored 24 points on 8-of-10 shooting, including making 7-of-9 shots from behind the three-point line. Forward
Cristian Rodriguez was the team's leading scorer with 26 points and eight rebounds.
It was the second time in the last three games that Arington has made seven three-pointers in a game, after he made 7-of-15 from behind the arc last Saturday against Cornell College. The senior now leads the Midwest Conference in both three pointers made and three-point field goal percentage for the season.
All five Lake Forest (11-5, 6-1 MWC) starters were in double figures scoring.
Lake Forest shot a season-high 62.1 percent from the field, and its 60 percent shooting on three-pointers is also a season high.
Despite Lake Forest jumping out to an early 16-6 lead to open the game, the hosts clawed back to take a 27-26 lead with just more than eight minutes remaining in the half.
From there, Arington converted a four-point play off an assist from
Marko Visnjevac to kickstart a huge Lake Forest run. That spurred a 24-3 Lake Forest spurt in which the Foresters made seven consecutive field goals at one point to open up a 51-30 lead just before halftime.
Lake Forest did not let its foot off the gas pedal in the second half as the offensive explosion continued after halftime. The Foresters shot 60 percent from the field after halftime and made 4-of-7 three-pointers. Lake Forest quelled any Knox comeback hopes by making 17-of-18 free throws after halftime.
Lake Forest led by double digits the entire second half. The Foresters topped 100 points for the second time this season, with both instances coming against the Prairie Fire.
The Foresters will return to action Wednesday night at the Sports & Recreation Center in a battle for Midwest Conference supremacy. The Foresters will take on Monmouth, the current leader in the Midwest Conference, at 5:30 p.m.
