Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Steve Bourbon

Red-Hot Foresters Keep Rolling

The Lake Forest men's basketball team was clicking on all cylinders to start Saturday's game against Cornell College, getting out to a halftime lead en route to a 94-74 victory on Saturday in Mount Vernon, Iowa.

The victory pushed Lake Forest's (9-5, 4-1 MWC) winning streak to six games; only Grinnell College has a longer current winning streak among teams in the Midwest Conference.

Alex Forowycz scored 26 points on 10-of-19 shooting, including 3-of-9 from three-point range, and contributed four rebounds and a game-high six assists. The nation's leader in free-throw percentage improved on his mark for the season, draining all three of his free-throw attempts to improve his season percentage to 97.8.

Junior Coltrane Marchand notched his second double-double of the season with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Senior Luke Arington set a new season high by scoring 24 points; the wing from Surprise, Ariz., was on fire from three-point range, hitting 7-of-15 shots from behind the arc.

Lake Forest came out of the gates Saturday firing offensively. The Foresters put up 51 points in the first half, shooting 58.8 percent from the field, including making 9-of-19 (47.4 percent) from the three-point line. Lake Forest dominated the rebounding battle 45-28, and the Foresters converted 13 offensive rebounds into 22 second-chance points.

The Foresters leaned on Forowycz to take a lead into the halftime intermission. The senior was integral to Lake Forest's 16-3 run in the final four minutes to end the first half, scoring 10 points during that span. The sprint by the visitors turned a tie game into a 13-point halftime advantage for Lake Forest.

In the second half, the Foresters kept the Rams at an arm's length, as Lake Forest never let their lead drop below 13 points for the remainder of the game.

The Foresters will look to continue their current winning streak in their next game Tuesday night against Beloit College. That Midwest Conference matchup will tip off at 5:30 p.m. at the Sports and Recreation Center.
