A 17-8 victory over visiting Milwaukee School of Engineering on Saturday sent the Lake Forest College men's lacrosse team to the semifinals of the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Tournament.
The Foresters wasted little time in taking control of the game with senior
John Casey scoring just 70 seconds into the contest. Tallies from sophomore
Macklin Thomas and freshman
Aidan Wigton made the score 3-0 and, after MSOEÂ got on the scoreboard, Lake Forest senior
Chas Dean answered, Wigton netted his second of the day, and freshman
John Shannon gave the home team a 6-1 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Senior
Conor Murphy struck for the first time this season to open the second period scoring. The Raiders netted their second of the game but Wigton answered with his third, Thomas hit the net twice to complete his hat trick, and Dean added goal number two for him on the day to put the home team on top 11-2 at halftime.
The lead grew to 16-3 by the end of the third quarter. Thomas scored for the fourth time on the day, sophomore
Carson Pagel had two in the period, junior
Brendan Herbert raised his team-high goal total on the year to 28, and senior
Connor Tartaglione also added to the Forester advantage.
MSOE outscored Lake Forest 5-1 in the final quarter with the lone Forester goal coming from senior
Parker Hevers.
Murphy led the home team with six ground balls, including the 300th of his career, and three caused turnovers. Senior goalkeeper
Andrew Widlar stopped six of the Raiders' nine shots on goal in three quarters of play.
The Foresters improved to 10-7 this spring while MSOE finished its season with the same record.
Lake Forest will play at league champion Aurora University in Wednesday's semifinal round.
