Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Foresters Defeat Aurora, Take Sole Possession of First Place in NACC

A 13-8 victory over visiting Aurora University on Wednesday left the Lake Forest College women's lacrosse team alone atop the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference standings with just two conference games remaining.

Forester senior Jenna Doctor, who entered the game tied for fourth in the nation in goals, struck seven times on Wednesday and matched her own program record of 77 on the season. Four of them came in the first quarter as the home team built a 6-1 lead.

Junior Shannon Gibbons and senior Ashley Carr also scored as Lake Forest out-shot Aurora 13-3 in the period.

Aurora began to come back in the second, netting the only two goals in the quarter to make the score 6-3 at halftime.

The Spartans also scored less than a minute into the third quarter to cut the deficit to two but Lake Forest junior Emma Sharp assisted on goals by Doctor and senior Abby Meyer to give her team a more comfortable 8-4 advantage going into the final period.

Back-to-back goals from Aurora to start the fourth made it a two-goal game again with 7:53 remaining but the Foresters rattled off five in a row in a three-and-a-half minute span to put the game out of reach. Doctor was responsible for the first and last goals in the run and Gibbons and Meyer each turned in her second of the contest. The other came from Sharp, who also assisted on three goals in the quarter and six on the day to raise her total on the season to 56. She entered the game ranked sixth in the country in that category.

Lake Forest attempted 39 shots to Aurora's 19 in the game and also had a 35-25 edge in ground balls. Senior Krissy Kuwahara and junior Claire Aimone shared the team lead with six ground balls apiece and Aimone also paced the squad with five caused turnovers. Kuwahara, Meyer, and fellow senior Savannah Frauhiger added four caused turnovers apiece as the Foresters set a program record with 24 on the day.

Forester junior goalkeeper Cecilia Adams recorded six saves and now has 93 on the season.

Lake Forest improved to 10-4 overall and 7-0 in NACC play while Aurora fell to 9-6 overall and 6-1 in the league.

The Foresters will travel to Cornell College on Saturday for a 2:00 p.m. contest.
