The Lake Forest softball team kept rolling in Midwest Conference play, as the Foresters won their sixth straight game with a pair of wins over Knox College at Mohr Field on Saturday.
Â
The Foresters (14-10) dominated all phases of the game to earn a pair of convincing wins over the Prairie Fire. Lake Forest took game one, 17-1, and finished the day with a 13-1 triumph – with both games ending after five innings.
Â
Lake Forest scored in every inning across both games.
Â
Game 1: Lake Forest 17, Knox 1 (5 innings)
The Foresters wasted no time jumping out to an early lead and prevailed with a 17-1 victory in five innings in game one.
Â
Leadoff hitter
Kaia Mismash could not be stopped on the basepaths. Despite not hitting the ball out of the infield, Mismash was 2-for-2 with two runs scored and a staggering five stolen bases. The Foresters tallied five runs in the first inning, three more in the second, and broke the game open with a six-run third inning.
Â
Sophomore
Nicole Marceau was 2-for-2 with a double and launched her first career home run in the third inning. Senior
Cheyenne Pellettiere hit 2-for-3 and contributed a team-high four RBI, while
Abbie Lewis and
Natalie Booth both added a pair of hits off the bench.
Â
As a team, the Foresters hit .600 for the game, as 13 different batters recorded a hit. The Foresters' 17 runs scored are the second-most in a single game this season for Lake Forest; the Foresters scored 18 runs in a victory on March 10 against Alfred University.
Â
Junior
Morgan Traxinger (2-2) earned the win by throwing all five innings. The Alaska native was calm and collected all game, scattering just three hits – all singles – and allowing just one run for the game. At one point, Traxinger retired nine batters in a row, and the dynamic performance lowered her season ERA to 2.33.
Â
Game 2: Lake Forest 13, Knox 1 (5 innings)
It was more of the same in game two for Lake Forest, as the Foresters cruised to a 13-1 win in five innings.
Â
Despite the Foresters' offensive explosion, it was Knox that got on the board first with a run in the top of the first inning. That deficit would be short-lived, as Lake Forest pounced for five runs in the bottom of the first inning and extended the lead with four more runs in the second.
Â
Paige Ratliff and
Jolie Devalk led the way by both hitting 3-for-3. The pair also combined to score four runs and knocked in five RBI.
Â
Freshman
Bella Antonucci blasted her first career home run for Lake Forest with a line drive to right field to lead off the bottom of the third inning.
Â
The Foresters' defense was solid all day, as Lake Forest did not record an error in the pair of games. Sophomore
Lia Taglia flashed the leather at shortstop with a sensational leaping catch on a line drive in the fifth inning to record the final out of the game.
Â
Freshman
Hanna Tutor (1-0) earned her first win at Lake Forest in her first career start by pitching all five innings. After allowing a run in the first, Tutor ended the day with four consecutive shutout innings, while walking one and striking out a pair.
Â
The Foresters will continue Midwest conference play at home Sunday, as Lake Forest plays hosts to Illinois College for a doubleheader. Game one begins at 1 p.m.
