Lake Forest Falls to Berry, Roger Williams in Florida

The Lake Forest College softball team was defeated twice in Florida on Thursday, the third of the Foresters' five game days in Florida this week.

Their opponent in the morning was Berry College, the 15th-ranked team in the nation. The Foresters managed just two base hits in the contest. Sophomore center fielder Kaia Mismash led off the game with a single and junior right fielder Emmie Nyen had a two-out double to right-center field in the fourth.

Berry, meanwhile, plated a pair of runs in the first and third innings and scored four times in the fourth.

Lake Forest also fell behind early against Roger Williams, who put one on the scoreboard in the top of the first inning and two in the second.

The Foresters' first run of the day came in the bottom of the second on the first collegiate home run for sophomore second baseman Lia Taglia, who cleared the fence just inside the left field foul pole.

The Hawks, however, answered with two runs in the top of the third to make the score 5-1.

Nyen crossed home plate with the next two runs of the contest. after singling, stealing second, and scoring on a base hit by senior first baseman Kelly Collins in the third, she tripled and came in on a sacrifice fly off the bat of junior third baseman Cadence Dempsey in the fifth to make it a 5-3 game.

Roger Williams got one back in the top of the seventh and Forester junior Kyla Chevalier led off the bottom of the frame with a pinch hit home run to close out the scoring. Chevalier's round-tripped was her second of the season and 21st in her career, tying her with Shelby Neill (2007-10) for fourth place in program history.

The losses dropped Lake Forest's record on the young season to 3-3 while Berry improved to 13-4 and Roger Williams to 3-5.

The Foresters will be back in action Friday afternoon, taking on Washington and Jefferson College at 2:00 (ET) and Hiram College at 4:15 (ET).
