The Forester women's tennis team defeated Randolph College 5-2 Wednesday afternoon before falling by the same score to Saint Mary's College in the evening.
After dropping the first set and winning the second, both by the score of 6-4, fifth-year
Margaret Bugnacki clinched the victory over Randolph when she took the third set super tiebreaker 11-9 at #3 singles. She and sophomore
Kate Feist also secured the doubles point earlier in the contest with their 6-4 triumph at #2.
Sophomore Annika Kinnear and junior
Olivia Pandazi also prevailed in both doubles and singles. They blanked the Wildcats' #3 doubles team 6-0 and Kinnear led 4-3 when her opponent at #5 singles was forced to retire due to injury. Pandazi closed out the match with a 7-5, 3-6, (10-3) victory at #6 singles.
The team's other point came from freshman
Lilli Dockal at #2 singles, where she rolled 6-0, 6-3.
Strupovets and Bugnacki earned the Foresters' points against Saint Mary's. After teaming up with Dockal to edge out the Belles' top doubles team 7-5, Strupovets defeated their best singles player 6-3, 6-1 while Bugnacki took the first set 6-3 and the second 6-2 at #3.
Lake Forest is now 12-3 on the season while Randolph fell to 2-3 and Saint Mary's improved to 7-3.
The Foresters will close out their Spring Break trip to Hilton Head, South Carolina, on Friday with an 11:30 a.m. (ET) match against Dickinson College.
