Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Foresters' Season Finally Ends in NCHA Slaats Cup Semifinals at St. Norbert

The Lake Forest College women's hockey team extended its season with a comeback victory and minigame win last Saturday but was unable to keep it going a week later, falling 3-1 at St. Norbert College in the semifinals of the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association Slaats Cup Playoffs.

The teams went into the final period tied 1-1 thanks to Forester junior forward Macy Gehrke's goal with 3:45 to play in the second. Her seventh score of the season was set up by a turnover in the neutral zone. Senior forward Zoey Whittington came away with the puck, worked a give-and-go with sophomore forward Ella Maher, and fired a shot that was saved by the Green Knight goalie. Gehrke was there to put in the rebound and tie the score.

St. Norbert's power play goal in the first had put the home team on top and the Knights struck again for the official game-winner at the 3:50 mark of the third. They added an insurance goal with 3:11 to play and survived the Foresters playing with an extra attacker for the final 99 seconds to advance to next weekend's final.

Both teams put 17 shots on goal in the first two periods combined and St. Norbert had a 10-6 edge in that category in the final 20 minutes.

The Foresters finished the season with a record of 13-12-3 while St. Norbert, the 11th-ranked team in the nation, moves on in the playoffs at 23-4-1.
