Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Lake Forest Doubles Up Marian to Secure Series Sweep

The Forester women's hockey team prevailed 4-2 at Marian University Saturday night to complete a series sweep of the Sabres.

All six of the game's goals were scored in the final 30 minutes, beginning with a tally from Lake Forest junior forward Jasmine Kohl at 10:08 in the second period. She and fellow junior forward Tallulah Bryant were battling a pair of Sabres for possession behind the Marian goal and Bryant was able to send the puck out to freshman forward Sophie Smith just left of the goal. Her shot was saved, as was Kohl's first try at a rebound score but the second was successful and the Foresters had the lead.

The Foresters' second goal was their only power play score of the contest. Freshman defenseman Delaney Zerfass fired a shot from just inside the blue line and the puck caromed off a defenseman to junior forward Ella Maher, who sent it into the left side of the goal from the middle of the left circle with 2:54 remaining in the second.

The Sabres closed to within one when they converted on a power play opportunity of their own with just 18.2 seconds on the clock.

The third period also featured, in order, two goals from Lake Forest and one from Marian. Kohl struck at the 3:39 mark, restoring the visitors' two-goal advantage and breaking her tie with Maher for the team lead with her sixth score this season. Junior defenseman Holly Kiernan set up the goal with a long shot from a difficult angle on the right side and Kohl was once again there to poke in the rebound.

The second goal in junior defenseman Kate Brennan's career closed out the scoring for the Foresters. The puck came out to her just after a faceoff and she fired it toward the goal from just inside the blue line. The goalie got in the way but was unable to stop the puck from trickling across the line to make the score 4-1.

Marian struck for the final time just 36 seconds later and pulled its goalie with more than two minutes on the clock. Lake Forest junior goaltender Chelsea Denniss, however, saved both of the Sabres; shots on goal down the stretch to second the victory.

With 32 saves on the night, Denniss evened her record on the year at 3-3-0 and raised her save percentage to .929.

The Foresters, who also defeated Marian 3-0 Friday night, are now 8-4-0 overall and 6-2-0 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play. Marian fell to 5-5-0 overall and 3-5-0 in the league.

Lake Forest will will not compete again in 2025 and will resume the season in Massachusetts, where the Foresters will play at Williams College on January 2 and Curry College the following day.
