A goal in each period gave the Lake Forest College women's hockey team a 3-0 victory over Marian University at home Friday night.
The Foresters scored in the opening period with just 1:29 on the clock. The Sabres attempted to clear the puck from their zone but Lake Forest sophomore defenseman
Lily Anderson stopped it just inside the blue line. She sent it toward the goal and a deflection off a Marian defenseman allowed junior forward
Jasmine Kohl to send it in for her fourth score of the season.
Lake Forest added to its lead late in the second period and Anderson was once again involved in the build-up. Her pass was deflected toward the goal by freshman forward
McKena Bales. The puck caromed out to fellow freshman forward Gracia Munoz, who sent it right back in and junior forward
Victoria Liu poked it over the line for her second goal of the year.
The third period score came from freshman forward
Sophie Smith with 8:32 to play. Kohl set up the goal, bringing the puck out of the right corner and crossing it to the back side, where Smith was waiting. She fired it in for her third score of the season. Kohl now leads the team with 11 points on the year.
The shutout belonged to freshman goaltender
Lily Peterfeso and was her third in five career starts. She turned away all 26 of the Sabres' shots on goal, including 11 in each of the final two periods, and improved to 4-1-0 with a .962 save percentage and 1.00 goals against average.
Lake Forest is now7-4-0 overall and 5-2-0 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play while Marian fell to 5-4-0 overall and 3-4-0 in the league.
The same two teams will face off again in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, Saturday night at 8:00.
