Basketball players Jamie Springstead and Alex Brown were named Forester Athletes of the Week on Tuesday.
Springstead led Lake Forest with 19 points and a game-high 11 rebounds during the team's 74-62 loss at Concordia University Chicago last Tuesday night. She shot 5-for-8 from the field, made both of her attempts from beyond the arc, and missed just once in eight trips to the free throw line in the contest. Four of her rebounds came at the offensive end of the court and led to seven of her points.
Springstead's point and rebound totals in the game were career-highs and it was her first double-double as a Forester. She is scoring a career-best 10.0 points per game so far this year.
Brown also scored a career-high 19 points and added five rebounds and a game-high four steals during his team's 89-79 victory over Saint Mary's University Tuesday night. The Foresters trailed by 14 with 11:20 to play before outscoring the Cardinals 37-13 the rest of the way. Brown fueled the comeback with 11 points, three rebounds, three steals, and four fouls drawn during that span.
Brown is shooting 44.7 percent from the field and 81.5 percent from the foul line and is averaging a career-high 9.7 points per game so far this season.
The Forester Athlete of the Week honors were the first for both players.
