Foresters Blank Aurora in NCHA Opener

11/6/2025 9:37:00 PM

Box Score The Lake Forest College women's hockey team prevailed 2-0 at Aurora University Thursday night for its third shutout in as many games this season.

It as the second straight shutout for Forester freshman goaltender Lily Peterfeso, who needed to make just 19 saves to keep the Spartans off the scoreboard. A dozen of those stops occurred in the second period. Peterfeso has now turned away all 50 shots on goal she has faced on the young season.

The first goal of the game was also the first in the collegiate career of the Foresters' Alex Luke and happened just 91 seconds into the contest. The scoring opportunity was created by fellow freshman forward Sophie Smith, who stole the puck in the left corner of the offensive zone and centered it. Luke was there to receive it and her shot slipped past the goaltender and just inside the right post for what proved to be the game-winner.

Lake Forest's other score came exactly 10 minutes later and was once again set up by an Aurora turnover. This one occurred just inside the Foresters' defensive zone and created a three-on-three attack featuring junior forwards Victoria Liu, Jasmine Kohl, and Tallulah Bryant. Bryant was the finisher, striking from between the circles for her first goal of the season. Kohl and Liu now share the team lead in points with four on the year.

The Foresters out-shot the Spartans 14-3 in the opening period. The home team had a 12-10 advantage in that category in the second and Lake Forest put nine shots on goal to Aurora's four in the final 20 minutes.

The last time Lake Forest recorded three consecutive shutouts was in February of 2023 and, prior to this year, the team had never allowed fewer than two goals over the course of the first three games of any season.

Thursday night's game was the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association opener for both teams and they will face off again in Lake Forest's Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse Friday night at 7:00.
