Senior
Jamie Springstead recorded her first career double-double, but it wasn't enough as the Lake Forest women's basketball team lost to Concordia University Chicago on the road on Tuesday night, 74-62.
Â
Springstead set new career highs with 19 points and 11 rebounds, and the guard would not be denied with four of those rebounds coming on the offensive end. Fellow senior
Rylie Crecelius recorded a career-high 17 points on 7-of-12 shooting. Tuesday's performance marked the third straight game the forward Crecelius has scored in double figures.
Â
Mia DeGrasse and
Ariana Ferreira-Torralba each added eight points for the Foresters (1-4). For the game, Lake Forest shot 38 percent from the field, converted 6-of-19 from three-point range, and made 18-of-26 from the free-throw line.
Â
The Lake Forest offense took some time to get rolling, as the Foresters shot just 30.4 percent from the field in the first half. The visitors battled all the way until the halftime whistle, as guard
Emma Hart pulled down a contested rebound and was fouled with just nine seconds remaining in the half. Hart would knock down both free throws to cut the Cougars lead to 36-30 going into intermission. Â
Â
Lake Forest came out of halftime with energy and created opportunities for themselves offensively. A quick 4-0 run cut the deficit to just two points, prompting a Cougars timeout.
Â
DeGrasse hit the offensive glass, rebounding her own miss, then dished to Crecelius for a layup. The Foresters utilized two more offensive rebounds on their next possession, this time courtesy of
Careah Baitlon and Annika Kinnear, which was punctuated by another Crecelius layup.
Â
In the fourth quarter, the Foresters were right on the cusp of taking the lead but could not break through. Lake Forest utilized another offensive board to set up DeGrasse for a layup to cut the deficit to 62-59, however, the Foresters would not be able to get any closer.
Â
The Foresters will return to nonconference action Saturday at the Sports and Recreation Center, as Lake Forest hosts North Park University. Tipoff is at 1 p.m.
