The Forester women's hockey team was doubled up 4-2 by Concordia University Wisconsin at home Saturday night.
The Falcons scored the only goal of the opening period and then added two more tallies in the second.
Trailing 3-0 going into the third, Lake Forest made things interesting in the final period. Senior defenseman
Holly Kiernan fired a shot from just inside the blue line past the Concordia Wisconsin goaltender and into the left side of the net at 9:38. Junior forward
Tallulah Bryant's shot caromed off the left post and she chased down the puck in the corner. Junior forward
Jenna Fryar came to help and poked it back to senior defenseman
Willow Poppleton, who crossed it to Kiernan for her first score of the season.
The visitors, however, restored their three-goal advantage just a minute-and-a-half later.
A penalty on the Foresters with 3:03 remaining appeared to end any chance of a comeback but junior
Jasmine Kohl's short-handed goal with 1:14 on the clock gave the home team a little hope. Junior forward
Victoria Liu stole the puck just inside the Falcons' zone and quickly found Kohl working her way in front of the goal. Kohl backhanded the puck past the goalie and into the left side of the net for her first career short-handed goal and third score overall this season.
The comeback bid ended there, however, as the Foresters were unable to put another shot on goal despite pulling junior goaltender
Chelsea Denniss in the final 30 seconds. Dennis finished the night with 37 saves and turned away 78 of Concordia Wisconsin's 83 shots on goal in the weekend series.
Lake Forest fell to 6-2-0 overall and 4-2-0 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play while Concordia Wisconsin improved to 7-1-0 overall and 6-0-0 in the league.
The Foresters will host non-conference games against College of Saint Benedict next Saturday and Sunday. Both contests will begin at 11:00 a.m.
