Football player Charlie Fordon and soccer player Anna Hoffman were named Forester Athletes of the Week on Tuesday for their performances in the final week of their collegiate careers.
Fordon helped lead his team to a 34-28 victory over the University of Chicago that lifted Lake Forest into a tie for second place in the final Midwest Conference standings at 7-2 in league play. The senior linebacker made eight tackles, including a sack and 2.0 tackles for loss. All but two of his stops prevented Chicago from reaching the line to gain, including three on third down. The Forester defense limited the Maroons to just four rushing yards when they were averaging more than 160 per game.
Fordon finished his four years at the College with 137 tackles, including 5.5 sacks and 19.5 tackles for loss. He also forced a pair of fumbles, recovered five, and added an interception.
Hoffman scored one goal and assisted on another in the Foresters' 4-0 victory over Spalding University on Saturday in the opening round of the NCAA Division III Tournament. She helped set up the third goal of the game just before halftime and then scored the fourth in the 61st minute to all but clinch the victory.
Lake Forest was defeated 2-0 by Carleton College in the second round on Sunday and finished the season with a 21-1 record. Hoffman ranks tied-for-third in the nation with 52 points and tied-for-fifth with 21 goals. Her 52 career goals are tied for the fourth-highest total in team history while her 128 points ranks fifth.
Hoffman has now been named Forester Athlete of the Week five times in her career while Tuesday's honor was the first for Fordon.
