The Lake Forest College men's soccer team saw its strong season come to an end on Saturday afternoon with a 4-1 loss to Luther in the opening round of the NCAA Division III Tournament. The Foresters finish the year at 19-2-0, completing one of the best campaigns in program history.
Lake Forest struck first in the ninth minute when freshman Chad Endozo found the back of the net to give the Foresters an early 1-0 lead. Junior Nathan Kostovetsky set up the play with a well-placed pass that created space inside the box, and Endozo finished the chance to put Lake Forest in front.
Luther responded quickly and scored twice before halftime, creating a 2-1 deficit for the Foresters after the opening period. Despite trailing, Lake Forest continued to battle and generated several dangerous moments throughout the match.
In the second half, the Foresters worked to regain control in the midfield, with senior Gio Diaz, sophomore Sam Satisky, and junior Gustavo Machado pushing play forward. Lake Forest recorded nine second-half shots and continued to test the Luther defense but were unable to convert the opportunities needed to equalize.
Freshman Marceli Okonski made multiple strong stops and finished with two saves, while the back line of senior Alexis Flores, senior Christian Karabetsos, and junior Ollie Francis held firm during extended stretches of pressure.
Luther added two more goals in the second half, extending the deficit and closing out the game despite Lake Forest's late push.
With the loss, the Foresters conclude an impressive season that featured a 19-2-0 record, an undefeated conference run, and a Midwest Conference championship. The group's effort, resilience, and consistency established them as one of the strongest teams in program history.
