Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Lake Forest Defeats Lawrence, Improves to 5-0

The Forester women's hockey team defeated visiting Lawrence University 5-2 Friday night in the teams' weekend series opener.

Two of the home team's goals came from freshman forward Alex Luke, who has now scored four times in the last three games. Her power play goal at 9:34 in the second period made the score 3-0 and turned out to be the official game-winner, her second as a Forester. Luke also closed out the scoring with an empty net goal late in the contest.

Luke was actually the third Lake Forest player to convert a power play opportunity. The first was sophomore defenseman Lily Anderson with 3:53 remaining in the opening period.

Junior forward Jasmine Kohl earned one of the assists on Anderson's tally and also set up fellow junior forward Tallulah Bryant's power play score at 1:46 in the second. Ella Maher, another junior forward, assisted on both of Luke's goals and is tied with Kohl for the team lead with five assists and seven points on the young season.

The home team's other score was the first in the collegiate career of freshman defenseman Delaney Zerfass and was Lake Forest's only 5-on-5 goal of the evening. It also made the score 4-0 with 2:52 to play in the second period.

The Vikings quickly responded, striking 29 seconds later and trimming the margin to two with a power play goal 68 seconds after that. They were all that Forester senior goaltender Angie Lombardi allowed in her 116-save season debut.

Lake Forest out-shot Lawrence by at least a 2-to-1 rate in each period and 42-18 in the game.

The victory was the fifth in as many games for the Foresters this season and they are now 3-0-0 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play. The vikings fell to 0-5-0 overall and 0-3-0 in the league.

The same two teams will face off again in Appleton, Wisconsin, Saturday night at 8:00.
