Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Foresters Nearly Erase 20-Point Deficit before Falling at Wheaton

The Lake Forest College men's basketball team played its second consecutive high-scoring game Wednesday night, falling 93-89 at Wheaton College.

The Foresters trailed 71-51 with less than 13 minutes to play and the margin was still 17 with eight-and-a-hale minutes left. The visitors than accounted for 20 of the game's next 25 points, cutting the deficit to just two (87-85) with 1:46 remaining.

A traditional three-point play by the home team ended the run and Lake Forest got no closer than three the rest of the way.

Five different Foresters had at least 10 points, led by senior forward Cristian Rodriguez with 22. He also grabbed a team-high six rebounds.

Senior wing Alex Forowycz was next with 19 points and he added four assists.

The other three Lake Forest players to reach double figures in points established new career highs in that category. Freshman guard Anthony Favia finished with a dozen while sophomore wing Nikolas Popovic and guard Marko Visnjevac added 11 and 10, respectively. They combined to shoot 12-for-19 from the field and Visnjevac led all players in the contest with four steals.

The Foresters shot 50.8 percent from the field while Wheaton was not far behind at 49.3 percent. The home team, however, connected on 11 of 22 attempts from three-point range while Lake Forest struck just four times in 16 tries from beyond the arc. The Thunder's slight 36-35 edge in rebounds offset their 16 turnovers compared to just 12 for the Foresters.

The loss dropped Lake Forest's record on the young season to 0-2 while Wheaton improved to 2-0.

The Foresters will be on the road again this Saturday afternoon when they take on Milwaukee School of Engineering at 1:00.
