Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Steve Bourbon

Foresters’ Winning Streak Snapped at Ripon

The Lake Forest men's basketball team had its three-game conference winning streak snapped Tuesday night at Ripon, falling 74-58.

Junior Alex Forowycz led the way for the Foresters (6-9, 3-3 MWC) with 16 points on 7-of-17 shooting. Forowycz was able to get rolling early in the game by scoring Lake Forest's first seven points of the game.

Forward Cristian Rodriguez continued his recent run of strong play with 13 points and five rebounds. The junior has now reached double-digit scoring in three of the last four games and was efficient Tuesday night. Rodriguez made 3-of-5 field goal attempts and lived at the free-throw line, making 7-of-10 shots.

Wing Coltrane Marchand was the other Forester in double figures with 11 points. Marchand led Lake Forest with a trio of made three-pointers for the game.

After Forowycz hit a layup to give Lake Forest an early 7-6 lead, Ripon went on a 14-2 run to seize control of the game. With less than three minutes remaining in the first half, Marchand hit a three-pointer to cut the Red Hawks' lead to seven. However, Ripon closed the first half on a 9-0 run to lead 41-25 at intermission, and Lake Forest would not reduce the deficit below 13 points for the rest of the game.

Turnovers plagued the Foresters throughout the game, and the Red Hawks capitalized. Ripon converted 20 Lake Forest giveaways into 25 points.

The Lake Forest offense was not clicking in the way that it had during its three-game conference winning streak, where the Foresters averaged 99 points per game. The Foresters were held to just 41.2 percent from the field, however Lake Forest's 51 field-goal attempts for the game marked a new season low.

Lake Forest will look to get back to its winning ways Saturday at 3 p.m. on the road against Illinois College.
