The Lake Forest College women's soccer team prevailed 3-0 at Aurora University Wednesday night.
It was the second career shutout for Forester junior goalkeeper
Joanna Aslanides, who was forced to make just one save in the contest. Two other Spartan shots on goal were stopped by Lake Forest defenders and the visitors had a commanding 29-9 edge in shot attempts overall on the night.
The Foresters took the lead in the 27th minute when junior
Izzy DeStefano struck for the third time in as many games this season. She worked a give-and-go with classmate
Anna Hoffman that started at midfield and led DeStefano nearly 30 yards up the right side of the field. Her shot from just inside the penalty box snuck between the goalkeeper and the right post to put Lake Forest on top.
The score remained 1-0 for exactly 41 minutes of game time. The margin doubled when junior
Anna Gracia's shot from just outside the top of the box that was saved by the Spartan goaliebut trickled out to her right, where Forester freshman
Maggie Balas was there to lift a shot into the top-left corner of the net. It was the first collegiate goal for Balas.
DeStefano, with a little luck, put the game out of reach less than three minutes later. Her cross from the right side of the box caromed off an Aurora defender and into the goal for her fourth score of the year.
Lake Forest is now 1-1-1 and Aurora 0-3-0 this fall.
The Foresters will be on the road again on Saturday when they visit Concordia University Wisconsin for a 1:00 p.m. kickoff.
