Thanks in part to a program record eight goals from junior
Jenna Doctor, the Foresters women's lacrosse team defeated visiting Cornell College 16-7 in Wednesday's Midwest Lacrosse Conference Tournament semifinal.
Doctor's second score of the day broke a 2-2 tie in the first quarter, which ended with the home team ahead 4-2. She scored one more in the second as Lake Forest opened up an 8-3 halftime lead. The Foresters outscored their guests 6-2 in the third quarter and four more tallies for Doctor in the final five minutes of the period gave her seven in the contest, which tied the school record she originally set in March of 2023 and had already matched three times this spring.
The record-breaker closed out the game's scoring with 65 seconds left in the contest and was assisted by senior
Ryleigh Nelson, who scored two goals and set up five others in the game. Sophomore
Emma Sharpe also scored twice and added four assists. Freshman
Eva Russell had a goal and an assist and additional tallies came from fellow freshman
Ella Maher and juniors
Krissy Kuwahara and
Abby Meyer.
Maher and junior
Savannah Frauhiger shared team-high honors with four ground balls apiece and Frauhiger also led Lake Forest with four caused turnovers. Freshman
Alyssa Dyson paced the squad with four draw controls.
The Foresters' last line of defense was also effective on Wednesday as sophomore goalie
Cecilia Adams made 10 saves, reaching double figures for the fourth time this year.
Lake Forest improved to 13-3 on the season while Cornell finished 13-4.
The Foresters will travel to the College of Saint Benedict on Saturday for a rematch of last year's MLC Tournament final, which Lake Forest won 16-6.
