2/4/2024 9:16:00 AM

Both the men's and women's Lake Forest swimming and diving teams were narrowly defeated by St. Norbert College in their last dual meet of the season on Saturday. The women lost 114-90 and the men were defeated 133-95.

Freshman Gavin Biccum won the 1000- and 500-freestyles for the men with times of 10:06.81 and 4:54.00, respectively. He was more than 17 seconds faster than the second place finisher in the 1000 and out-touched his opponent by .20 seconds in the 500 after a very close and exciting race. His teammate senior Ally McCarthy made it a clean sweep of the distance events when she won the 1000 with a time of 11:03.74 and the 500-freestyle in a 5:25.37, which was more than five seconds faster than the runner-up.

Junior Andrew Lee added to the men's final point total with wins in the 200-IM (2:02.56) and 200-breaststroke (2:15.45), and his fellow junior Ben Jacob won the 200-butterfly with a time of 2:00.67. Jacob was joined by sophomore Demetri Zemenides, freshman Cameron Schlosser, and sophomore Alexander Wilson to win the 200-freestyle relay; it was a very close race and their time of 1:29.03 was just .22 faster than their counterparts.

Freshman Audrey Kilmer went three-for-three in her events on the day. She won the 200-freestyle in a 2:00.31 and the 200-backstroke in 2:12.78 before combining with freshman Izzy Harju, sophomore Valeria Welk, and junior Sylvie Paddon-Jones to out-touch the Green Knights in the 200-freestyle relay. The women won the event by just .07 with a final time of 1:41.35.

Biccum's and McCarthy's times in the 1000s, Lee's time in the 200-breaststroke, and the women's time in the 200-free relay were all pool record-breaking times.

The Foresters will compete next at the Midwest Conference Championships at Grinnell College beginning on Friday, February 16th at 9 a.m.
