The Forester women's hockey team came out on top of a 2-1 decision at the University of Dubuque on Saturday to finish off a weekend sweep of the Spartans.
The game was scoreless until Lake Forest sophomore forward
Shannon Gibbons deflected in a shot by junior defenseman
Sophia Chapman at the 12:31 mark of the second period. It was the fifth score of the season for Gibbons.
The visitors added to their lead at the 5:25 mark of the third period.
Jasmine Kohl retrieved the puck from behind the Dubuque goal and centered it to fellow freshman forward
Tallulah Bryant, who fired a shot past the Spartan goaltender from between the top of the circles.
Bryant's fourth goal overall turned into her first official game-winner when Dubuque finally got on the scoreboard with 6:27 remaining.
Lake Forest killed a minor penalty and junior goaltender
Angie Lombardi made a pair of saves down the stretch to preserve the victory. She stopped 19 of the Spartans' 20 shots on goal while 45 of the Foresters' attempts on teh afternoon were on target.
The victory raised Lake Forest's overall record to 13-10-0 and Northern Collegiate Hockey Association mark to 10-4-0 on the year. Dubuque fell to 2-20-0 overall and 2-12-0 in the league.
The Foresters are currently in third place in the conference stands, one point ahead of Aurora University, their opponent next weekend. The teams will face off Friday night at 7:00 and Saturday afternoon at 3:00 to close out the regular season. The winner of the series will be the #3 seed in the NCHA Slaats Cup Playoffs, a position Lake Forest will secure in the event of an even split.
