2/17/2024 9:53:00 PM

Box Score 1 The Lake Forest College women's hockey team defeated visiting Concordia University Wisconsin 2-0 in the 20-minute minigame on Saturday that decided which program would advance to the semifinals of the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association Slaats Cup Playoffs.

The Foresters defeated the Falcons 3-1 in the series opener Friday but fell 4-2 in Saturday's game two. They trailed 2-0 in that contest before goals from freshman forward Jasmine Kohl and sophomore forward Mady Gehrke tied the score in the second period. The visitors, however, regained the lead late in the second and tacked on an empty net score late to force the minigame.

After being out-shot 38-29 in game two of the series, Lake Forest had a commanding 19-7 edge in that category in the minigame. Junior defenseman Sophia Chapman broke the scoreless tie from the top of the right circle at the 9:16 mark, much to the delight of the students in attendance just on the other side of the glass. Another defenseman, junior Abby Meyer made the score 2-0 with a blast from straighaway at the 11:34 mark.

Forester junior goaltender Angie Lombardi stopped all seven shots on goal she faced in the minigame and posted a .944 save percetage over the course of the weekend.

The game two loss dropped Lake Forest's overall record on the season to 14-13-0 while Conccordia Wisconsin's season ends at 12-12-3.

The Foresters will travel to Adrian College, the league's regular season champion, next Saturday for a 7:00 p.m. (ET) puck drop. The winner will play in the NCHA Slaats Cup final on Saturday, March 2.

The Slaats Cup is named after current Lake Forest College Vice President for Athletics Jackie Slaats, a major contributor to the formation of the conference during her tenure as the Foresters' athletic director.
