Box Score The Lake Forest College women's hockey team was defeated 8-5 by the University of Wisconsin-Superior on Saturday and were forced to settle for a series split.
Less than 24 hours after defeating the Yellowjackets 3-1 in the season opener, the Foresters were ahead by the same score at the end of Saturday's opening period.
The first goal went to the visitors less than a minute-and-a-half into the contest and the home team tied the score at the 3:19 mark. It was the first of two scores on the day for junior defenseman
Holly Kiernan. A Forester power play goal at 14:05 from sophomore forward
Victoria Liu gave the home team a 2-1 advantage and senior forward
Anna McCluskey's second goal of the weekend completed the period's scoring with 18.4 seconds on the clock.
Power play goals from each team early in the second period made the score 4-2 in favor of the Foresters. Superior's came at the 2:17 mark and Kiernan's first career multi-goal performance was complete just 68 seconds later.
The visitors added two more goals later in the second and the teams entered the final period tied at four.
Junior forward
Emma Sweeney put the home team back on top five minutes into the final stanza but, unfortunately for the Foresters, that was their final goal of the afternoon.
The Yellowjackets knotted the score at five at the 8:16 mark and pulled ahead just 44 seconds later. They added insurance goals at 13:40 and 18:49.\
The Foresters accounted for 28 of the game's 52 shots on goal. They were also 2-for-5 on the power play while Superior was 1-for-3.
After splitting the series, the Foresters will open Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play next weekend against Aurora University. The teams will face off Friday night in Aurora and Saturday in Lake Forest with both games starting at 7:00 p.m.
